Those still on the fence about Hulu Live TV may just have had their decision made for them. Cord Cutters News reported today that Hulu now has over 521 local TV stations on offer. Quoting an official release from Hulu, Cord Cutters News reports Hulu’s locals now cover 50% of the country. With a growing number of ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox affiliates, it appears Hulu is angling to move deeper into the over-the-top (OTT) service market.

Alongside its strong growth in local affiliates, Hulu has established itself among cord-cutters. CNBC reported yesterday that Hulu’s live TV service now boasts 450,000 subscribers. According to that same report, Google’s YouTube TV service now has 300,000 subscribers.

Hulu Live TV in Good Standing

Hulu with Live TV has even stronger incentives to recruit cord-cutters. The service may have far fewer subscribers than its biggest competitors, such as Sling TV and DirecTV Now. Hulu’s video-on-demand service, however, has 17 million subscribers. The company offers its entire streaming library as part of the live TV service, potentially adding value over its competitors.

The past few months have been pivotal for Hulu’s future. The announcement of Disney’s 21st Century Fox purchase means Disney will own a majority share in Hulu. Many speculate that Disney may try to take over Hulu completely to turn Hulu into a Disney streaming service. What that means for cord-cutters remains to be seen.
