People who rent or buy content through the Redbox On Demand can now earn reward points.

Previously, only Redbox customers that used Redbox kiosks could earn rewards.

Every transaction made through Redbox On Demand now earns you 75 points. By comparison, renting physical discs earns you anywhere from 100 points per night for a DVD to 200 points per night for a game.

According to the Redbox Unscripted blog, the revamped perks system was designed “to thank and reward those movie-watchers and gamers who are loyal Redbox customers.”

As an incentive to rent more often, Redbox Perks “levels up” the more you use it.

The new program is still a work in progress. While you can earn points for using Redbox On Demand now, you can’t buy streaming content with points yet. For now, only Redbox kiosks will accept the points as payment.

However, more Redbox Perks features will likely be rolling out “over time.”

“Over time, Perks will be much more engaging at the Box, on the web and within the app.”

Though Redbox On Demand is still technically a beta project, it now has a solid library of recently-released movies. Redbox introduced its on-demand streaming service at the end of 2017.

Rental prices are about what you would expect from iTunes, Vudu or Amazon Prime Video. Sci-fi sequel Blade Runner 2049, horror flick It and the My Little Pony Movie are just some of the new releases that are now available in the Redbox On Demand library.
